believe to be one of her very best works.

Contemporary Acrylic and Oil Paintings

I am not just a fan of Ashley. I also
personally own this example of her work!
Jellyfish as art? I don't know where I get these ideas either! Here is how
these things sometimes evolve.
This was my original sketch for "Starfish World". It was
supposed to have one jellyfish and a piece of blue glass at the
top for the water line to cast a blue glow down over it. The blue
glass ended up in the "Siren" project and the jellyfish was
abandoned as unnecessary for this project.
So I decided to make the jellyfish but he needed some friends
so I cut out 9 patterns and arranged them on the ottoman one
night while watching TV. No idea how I was going to attach them
together or how I would finish them. Just the basic idea.
In the course of cutting them out I added number ten and
labored over the arrangement again.
Here the back side was added to give them depth. Now I had to
come up with a plan or I couldn't go any further.
A plan is born. I spent a couple of lunch hours trying to figure out
the best way to show motion. I came up with this idea which has
all of them originating from one point in the lower left. It also
shows the plan for how to hide the mounting hardware in the
tails.
The project is finally starting to come together. At this point I am
five or six revisions into something that most people thought I
was crazy to try in the first place. Jellyfish? Now I just need to
add forty tails and figure out how what coloring will accent them.
I wanted to leave them mostly reflective to pick up colors around
them. This is as close as I can come to making them appear
transparent like a real jelly. A little grinding and heat coloring for
detail and I am finally finished.  See the gallery for pictures of it
hanging up for the first time.
"Elementary Particles" an original Acrylic

painting and a few others by Sarah will
serve as background pieces for some of
my original sculptures in our new
collaborative effort. Stay tuned for
